EATON COUNTY, MICHIGAN
TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE CITIES AND TOWNSHIPS IN THE COUNTY OF EATON, STATE OF MICHIGAN: NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a PRIMARY election will be held in said cities and townships on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. THE POLLS WILL BE OPEN FROM 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.
FOR THE PURPOSE OF electing candidates of the Republican Party, Democratic Party and Libertarian Party seeking nomination to the following partisan offices to be voted for in Eaton County: Governor, U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative in Congress, State Senator, State Representative 65th District (City of Eaton Rapids, Townships of Brookfield, Eaton, and Hamlin) State Representative 71st District (balance of Eaton County), County Commissioner, Benton Township Clerk to fill a partial term ending 11-20-2020, Brookfield Township Clerk and Trustee to fill partial terms ending 11-20-2020, Carmel Township Clerk to fill a partial term ending 11-20-2020, Vermontville Township Clerk and two Trustees to fill partial terms ending 11-20-2020, Precinct Delegates.
For The Further Purpose of voting on the following proposals:
Eaton County 911 and Central Dispatch Millage Renewal Question.
Shall the County levy a millage in an amount not to exceed 0.95 of a mill ($0.95 on each $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of five (5) years (2019-2023) inclusive, for the purpose of continuing funding for a comprehensive, Countywide Enhanced 9-1-1 Emergency Telephone and Central Dispatch System?
Eaton County Juvenile Millage Renewal Question.
Shall the County levy a millage in an amount not to exceed 0.35 of a mill ($0.35 on each $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of five (5) years (2019-2023) inclusive, for the purpose of continued funding to provide protective services for abused and neglected children, and to detain and house Eaton County juveniles who are delinquent, and to operate new and existing prevention and treatment programs for such juveniles and children?
For The Further Purpose of (Delta Township only) voting on the following:
Renewal of Operating Millage for Paramedic/Firefighter Services.
Shall the currently authorized millage rate limitation of 0.9896 mill ($0.9896 of each $1,000 of taxable valuation) on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all taxable property in the Charter Township of Delta, Eaton County, Michigan, be renewed for a period of 10 years, 2019 to 2028, inclusive, to provide operating funds for paramedic/firefighter services for township residents; the estimate of the revenue the township will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2019 is approximately $1,405,600?
For The Further Purpose of (City of Grand Ledge only) voting on the following:
Grand Ledge City Charter Proposal.
Shall the City Charter proposed by the Grand Ledge Charter Commission be adopted?
For The Further Purpose of (Benton Township only) voting on the following Fire and Emergency Medical Services Millage.
Shall Benton Township be authorized to continue to levy up to 1.9664 mills ($1.9664 per $1,000.00 of taxable value) in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution and levy it for 4 years, 2018 through 2021 inclusive, for the purpose of providing fire protection and emergency medical services, including capital equipment expenditures, which 1.9664 mills levy will raise an estimated $189,918.70 in the first year the millage is levied?

All electors who are registered with the township clerk in which they reside are eligible to vote at this election. Sample ballots can be found at www.mi.gov/vote. To comply with the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), voting instructions will be available in audio format and in Braille. Arrangements for obtaining the instructions in these alternative formats can be made by contacting the township clerk in advance of the election. All polling locations are accessible for voters with disabilities.
Clerk’s offices will be available on Saturday, August 4, until 2:00 pm to accept applications for AV Ballots by mail.

A voter who will be out of the community between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on the day of election, or who is physically unable to attend the polls without the assistance of another person, or who is at least 60 years of age is eligible to receive an absent voter ballot.
